Week 3     (pages 76-102)

1. Matthew, Mark and Luke all record Jesus’ words concerning blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.  Only Mark explains that Jesus said this “because...” —why?  (page 76)

2. Mark 4:33 says Jesus spoke many parables.  On pages 76-84 are most of these parables given in all three of the synoptic Gospels?  Which are related only by Matthew?  only by Mark?  Are any related only by Luke? 

3. On pages 85-86 Mark and Luke discuss Jesus’ encounter with a man possessed by demons.  Matthew mentions two people possessed.  Is this contradictory, or supplementary?  Explain.  (Compare the verses and footnote on page 175.)

4. In matters reported by more than one Gospel writer, sometimes Mark supplies more details (page 88), sometimes Matthew does (page 79), sometimes Luke (page 69), and sometimes John (242).  How would you explain this?
